I can’t believe that it has almost been a year now and we are approach the Anniversary of Typhoon Yolanda. I have asked myself several times – have I moved on? Have I managed to heal? While I want to answer Yes to my questions, who am I fooling, I have not even been able to write my story yet. That said, I am grateful to on the road to recovery and even writing this Blog brings me some comfort.
Before the Typhoon I always planned ahead, I always think deep and carefully choose the things that I will do. As the Typhoon was pounding Tacloban it also shatters my heart and mind not knowing if we would survive. Soon when I reach the acceptance stage of healing I will Blog about me and family’s struggles through the Typhoon…. For now, this Blog is focused on the upcoming Anniversary and how others were/are affected.
I have asked some people their opinions about the Anniversary event, I was shocked by one of their answers. One of them looked at me and asked, “do you consider yourself lucky that you survived the Typhoon?” I answered “I think so, why do you ask”? He said “how can you consider yourself lucky with all the suffering still around us. After the Typhoon look what happened to us. We suffered emotionally and mentally, our people got hungry and no one knew where to get food or water. Some of our people became violent and forgot to ask kindly, instead out of desperation some stole from others”.
It will be a year now and we would like to say we have recovered. However, the constant reminders of it all certainly make us question our status. Deep inside myself I am hoping that maybe the Anniversary will finally put things behind my back. I know time will heal me and when it does I will pound the keyboard once again and finally write my part of history during the Typhoon.
Please join me and be a part of this candlelight event.
